Unless you really want the new Death Rays, I'd stick with the old one. The old one are very vague, but assuming the Necrons didn’t have any new technology (other than accessing the Webway) from when they were Necrontyr, the Old Ones should be>C’Tanless Necrons=Forerunners>everyone else here. In a fit of jealousy, the Necrontyr declared war. They share no physical traits, the Tau have very little if any psychic ability and very advanced technology, but none of it relates to the gear used by the Necrontyr. Fifity worlds, connected through the webway and all the other technological miracles of the Necrontyr. The new model is even a bit smaller than the old one: The Naculan dynasty is a sundered Dynasty, spread over fifty worlds at its peak. Over in the 40,000 universe... the Krork (orks) were the Old One's chosen bioweapons. This caused a great deal of resentment among the Necrontyr. The Necrontyr were an ancient, morbid people who, like the Old Ones, had spread throughout much of both galaxies. The Old Ones should have helped them, or perhaps taken them under their wing. Advanced and powerful, they created beautiful paradises and engineered the creation of many species, and were tireless enemies of Chaos. Seeing the Tau having always been listed as a very new race overall and the Necrontyr as one of the very oldest races in the Galaxy. They are basically that universe's Lizard Men, except they were released somewhat incomplete out of desperation while fighting the Necrontyr and the C'Tan. Ah, the Old Ones. That race that is mentioned with just enough information to make the odd scholar want more. Their homeworld in the Milky Way's Halo Stars had been constantly beat upon by harmful solar radiation, courtesy of the C'tan known as the Nightbringer, resulting in the Necrontyr… The Old Ones, true to their namesake, were already old when the Necrontyr arrived on the galactic scene. The less I like it. Greenskins were actually introduced BY the Old Ones on accident. The Necrontyr had been infighting since they took to the stars, and probably before then. I was going to get one to go with my two old models. Now, what is known: * They were the first sentient species in the galaxy. When the C’tan came, the worlds became even more interconnected by teleportation matrices and direct wormhole gates. At least... as of a certain edition. 1 History 1.1 War Begins 1.2 The Tide Turns 1.3 War Ends 2 Source The Necrontyr Empire spread far across the Milky Way, but the Necrontyr had slow-moving space vessels and short lifespans. The War in Heaven was a tumultuous conflict between waged by the C'tan and the Necrontyr against the Old Ones. The new Monolith is now more expensive, a Lord of War (so it costs 3CP to even add to your army,) and isn't much better than it used to be. The war caused incredible destruction throughout the Milky Way and the Immaterium. The Old Ones were rightfully cautious. Which is odd to me because at first I really liked it. That way I can use the new weapons. Unless you really want the new Death Rays, I'd stick with the old one. Instead the Old Ones rejected the Necrontyr. The new model is even a bit smaller than the old one: The new Monolith is now more expensive, a Lord of War (so it costs 3CP to even add to your army,) and isn't much better than it used to be. The Necrontyr eventually encountered the Old Ones, an enlightened and long-lived species, and pleaded with them to share the technology to increase their lifespans — but, again, to no avail. I think I probably will but it will be a while before I do that.
